About Dr. Young
I am passionate about creating learning experiences that nurture the whole person cognitively, emotionally, socially, creatively, and physically. Drawing from neuroscience and brain-based educational practices, my approach integrates educational therapy, expressive arts, movement, storytelling, sensory-rich experiences, executive functioning support, and nervous system-informed practices. Research continues to show that creativity and the arts strengthen neural integration, emotional regulation, memory, self-expression, resilience, and deeper learning. I have seen firsthand how curiosity, creativity, connection, and joy can transform a student’s relationship with learning.
I strive to create supportive environments where students feel safe taking risks, building confidence, developing self-awareness, and experiencing the joy of learning. When students feel connected and emotionally regulated, their brains become more open to growth, problem-solving, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement.
Throughout my career, I have served in a variety of educational, counseling, and leadership roles across schools, higher education, and private practice. My work has included educational therapy, disability and accessibility services, inclusion initiatives, executive functioning support, educator training, and collaborative partnerships with families and schools to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a Master’s degree in Counseling, a California Teaching Credential, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, and specialized certifications in UCLA social-emotional arts (SEA) and executive functioning skill development. My professional training also includes Orton-Gillingham and Lindamood-Bell multisensory literacy interventions, processing and cognitive enhancement training, evidence-based approaches to learning differences, dyslexia remediation, executive functioning development, and social-emotional learning. I am also a certified Functional Medicine Health Coach and a 200-hour yoga instructor, with special certification in teaching yoga to children.
Most importantly, I am a mother of three who understands the importance of helping every child feel capable, connected, creative, and valued for who they are. It is truly a privilege to walk alongside students and families as they discover strengths, build resilience, and grow into confident, lifelong learners.
I believe learning is most powerful when students feel emotionally safe, creatively engaged, and deeply understood. My work as an educator, mental health professional, and educational therapist is grounded in the belief that every learner has unique strengths and the capacity to grow, flourish, and thrive when given the right support and environment.
For more than two decades, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with diverse learning profiles and emotional needs, including ADHD, dyslexia, autism, learning disabilities, sensory processing differences, anxiety, and executive functioning challenges. I support students from elementary school through graduate school, while also helping young adults navigate important life transitions toward greater independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.
Educational Therapy Philosophy
Compassion-Collaboration-Creativity
At Sage Learning Solutions, helping each child, adolescent, and adult discover their strengths and reach their full potential is at the heart of everything we do. I believe every learner is capable of growth, success, and meaningful achievement when they feel understood, supported, and empowered to learn in ways that work best for them. Struggling students deserve to be seen, heard, and valued without judgment, and to be given the tools, strategies, and confidence to thrive both academically and emotionally.
My approach is rooted in educating the whole person. Embedded within every interaction are opportunities to nurture social-emotional growth, strengthen resilience, build self-confidence, foster independence, and cultivate a lifelong love of learning. I believe learning should be engaging, creative, collaborative, and joyful because students learn best when they feel emotionally safe, connected, and genuinely invested in the process.
One of the most important foundations of educational therapy is the relationship itself. A warm, trusting, and supportive connection creates the safety students need to take risks, develop confidence, and grow into capable learners. I am passionate about creating inclusive and welcoming environments where students feel encouraged, celebrated, and inspired to recognize their own strengths and potential.
My work blends evidence-based educational therapy with creative, brain-based, and expressive approaches that support cognitive, emotional, and nervous system development. Drawing from neuroscience, social-emotional learning, expressive arts, executive functioning support, and mind-body practices, I strive to help students access their innate abilities while developing greater self-awareness, flexibility, and confidence.
I also believe that supporting families is just as important as supporting students. Parents are an essential part of the learning journey, and I value collaborative partnerships built on compassion, understanding, and trust. Through parent coaching and guidance, I help families reframe academic challenges, strengthen communication, support emotional regulation, and create healthier, more connected approaches to learning and growth.
